Here is a comping study Ted wrote for "Stella by Starlight" in the key of Bb.  I’ve attached his original page and my compilation pages.  This study was done for a student, and Ted wrote only the letter name of the chords and left the chord quality for the student to write in.  I’ve taken the liberty to add those names in red ink.

This is not an easy study, and it requires a number of long stretches and plenty of time above the 12th fret.  This study utilizes chord voicing groups V-1 and V-2 on the middle strings primarily.

Ted added the note, “Please remember about using rhythmic anticipations and general jazz phrasing, or this stuff will just die on the page.”  He also wrote, “Don’t be worried bout the ‘clash’ of the 11 & b5…they’ll work.” for the minor 11(b5) chords.

Also, be sure to check out Ted's arrangements for this tune in the "From Students" section:  http://www.tedgreene.com/fromstudents/StellaByStarlight.asp

Enjoy!

Hi Paul,  The reason I didn't include this page was because Dan & I were planning to create a "comping" section.  It's OK here for now.  When we create the section, we'll include this there.  Thanks again.  Barbara

Hi,
I found this "Road Map" that Ted wrote up for "Stella."
He made his comments in red on a print-out from some book.  He wrote: "How I think while playing."  On the first measure, he changed the second sentence to read, "Then to get into the 2nd bar "front cycle" (up 4th)."
I think the rest of it is easy enough to decipher.
Hope this is helpful.
