I played a Tele w/EMGs this weekend and they were pretty cool, especially for that clear neck pickup sound. Got me wondering if Ted ever used them, and what he thought?

Anyone have the inside scoop?

thanks!

I only saw his tele's with dimarzio HBs and a stock tele bridge pup.  BUT, others should chime in . . .

Nope!  I never saw or heard him talk about any active pups on his Teles.  I was considering EMGs at one time, but avoided them due to problems with pedals, etc.  He might have clued me in on that.

Hi Mark,

Just a footnote in favor of using the active EMG pickups:  Lorne Lofsky, a protégée of Ed Bickert, used EMG pickups in his Ibanez Roadstar II, and gets a pretty good sound.  Check him out!

Just an update on my EMG active pickup experiment.  I recently bought an older Buscarino Strat with EMG active pups.  I even swapped out one of the tone pots for a EMG-SPC (Strat Presence Control) to get a fatter sound.  Overall, I thought the guitar itself was great, however, the active electronics sounded very sterile to my ears.  FYI, If you are after Ted's sound, don't go down that road!

Anyone have some recommendations for Amp work and Guitar setup? I live in Redondo Beach but would shoot up to the valley. I have 2 blackface fender amps that need cleanup work and I'd like someone to work on a couple of my tele's.
