I’d like to initiate a new thread here for “Ted Greene Chord Move of the Day.”

These will be any excerpts from Ted Greene materials – lessons, books, arrangements, comping pages, theory pages, etc.
Anyone can contribute.
All comments welcome, of course.
Select chord moves that you like, that sound interesting, melodic, and are not “too difficult” to play.

Short excerpts are probably best – anything from 2 chords to a short progression is fine, but bite-size pieces are preferred.  I think that the best samples are ones that a person could use in many different ways, styles, keys, etc.

Please provide a source for your excerpt (give title, lesson date, page #, etc.)
Let’s try to have each post last for at least 24 hours.
If you have something ready but someone else has already posted, please wait until the next day to post yours.
Please keep the files small.  Shoot for around 30-60 KB (?)

Here’s the first one, taken from Ted’s arrangement of “And I Love Her.”

I guess that in order to get the most out of these little snippets one should try to move them into other keys, vary the rhythm, use "delays", do "right-hand rolls" (arpeggiate a chord), look for alternate forms on different string sets, etc.

Here's a nice ii-V-I in G from Ted's Autumn Leaves comping, 1979-07-21.

Glad you like it, Guitareben.
Here's another one - this time from Ted's arrangement of "All of Me" 1984-10-07.
There's two distinct moves here, first the ii-V move with the F9 sandwiched in between (actually, it's an F9no3 to be exact).  Then there's the V-i which is kinda cool.

Hi Paul, when I click on the attached image in your first post I get a small blank white rectangle with a non stop still loading circle. Your subsequent posts/images are fine. Could you check this your end?

The first image works fine on all of my computers (all 3).
Here it is again, in case this works:

Here's one. A move from I to IV (or bIII to bIV in minor) or any two major 7ths a 5th away.

This one comes from the comping page for "Manha de Carnaval".  This model can also be turned into minor chords, or a II-V, though the soprano doesn't move as nicely unless you alter it a little (for example: in the II-V you can start the soprano on the root instead of the 9th, and play the middle chord with the 5th on top instead of 6, and the third chord with the 13th on top, that way you get a rising chromatic soprano like in this example). Hope this makes sense [smile]

Mike,
Nice one.  Yes, it makes sense.  Changing chord qualities is another way to expand these examples.

Here's one from Ted's "Angel Eyes" arrangement.

This is a bit more involved (from Ted's "Aura Lee" arrangement, redrawn grids).
I like the way Ted is always conscious of descending bass lines.
