I found out that Axelrod made a record with Tal Farlow and also wrote a book about his tuning on the 12-string guitar.

Richard Lieberson really looks like Frank Zappa, after an accident with the razor.

I tried to google the tuning info but no avail. I have new James Tyler/Line6 Variax modeling guitar on order and I think that with PC editor it maybe possible to tune the strings on 12-string models to other intervals than unisons and octaves.

The Axelrod tuning is something I'd definitely like to try (at least as brain teaser)!

Yes, that is definitely what he is doing. It sounds to me like some "strings" are tuned to a major third and others to a minor third. An acquaintance of mine knows Axelrod. I'll see if he can join us here and add some information.
